Two real chapter bookmarks start at pages 1 and 4. Splitting by bookmarks should produce two three-page PDFs.

Give reviewers one bookmarked chapter at a time.

  1. Choose the report and confirm its chapter bookmarks in a PDF viewer.
  2. Split by bookmarks and create the ZIP.
  3. Check the chapter titles and page ranges before sending sections.

Run bookmark mode on the six-page sample with chapter starts at pages 1 and 4. Confirm one output covers pages 1-3 and the next covers pages 4-6.

Combine chosen chapters
What you get

Split a PDF at its supported top-level bookmarks. The result is a ZIP with one PDF for each chapter; PDFs without supported bookmarks cannot be split this way.

Limits and important details

10 MiB input, 200 pages and 40 chapters including front matter. Only supported local PDF bookmarks that target pages in increasing order are used; forms, links, annotations, external actions and unsupported bookmark structures require manual page ranges. The result is a ZIP of chapter PDFs.

Example

Use the six-page sample PDF with top-level chapter bookmarks at pages 1 and 4. Split in bookmark mode, then inspect the ZIP: the chapter PDFs should cover pages 1-3 and 4-6. This follows PDF bookmarks, not headings detected in page text.
